My Heart's Craving For Something New - POEM

www.facebook.com/stolnikspoetry
Hello friends and fans!

I have a long weekend with All hallows I don't work all until Sunday.

Here is the direct link to my photo-poems on my Facebook page. Just click HERE and it will open a new window and direct you to my page. I don't know if you all like poetry but have a look at my page. There are poems about different aspects of life, some deal about my hearing, others about the challenges in life. Feel free to browse through my photos and see if there's something that you enjoy.

I have another blog that is dedicated to my writing only, it's called "www.bionicpoetrygirl.blogspot.com". I even created a tab for that page here but it seems like that the link doesn't work .... I have to figure out how to fix this... until then I'll put the link here in this post.

Here's one of my "latest" poems, not that up-to-date but I still wanted to share with you. This is how I felt and still feel about my writing. It's very sad.. but when you are so full of passion and still see it's hard to somehow reach out to people then it makes you wonder ... like in this poem... I don't think that I need to explain it. Read yourself and create yourself a picture about it.

If you have some encouraging words for me then please share it with me. I need to be encouraged more than ever why I am writing and why I should continue .....

Your poetry girl,

My CI story published at "Hearing Health Foundation"

Hello there!!!

It was been literally a while! We had first snow here in Salzburg a few days ago :O

A few weeks ago, I have posted some of my poems about my ear on some Facebook pages that deal with hearing and cochlear implants and I came across this one called "Hearing Health Foundation"

Their aim is to prevent and cure hearing loss through groundbreaking research.

I have posted some poems on their Facebook page.

One of the poems that I have posted was this one, called "A Different World". You can find this poem in a better resolution to read on my page HERE as well as the poem in the photo description to read. Please take a look to read it. It contains some background information about how I got my hearing loss and a brief story how I lost my hearing.

It is about my first experience with my new cochlear implant. The first few days were really hard to adjust but I was open about this new "thing" so everything else was just falling into place. So after I posted this poem, I got a message from Tara from the Hearing Health Foundation and she asked me if I would like to include my story on their website and so I did. :)))

Hi Sandra,
Thanks so much for sharing your experience and these two beautiful poems! They are a great addition to our collection of stories!

Here is an excerpt of her email. I was really excited and thankful for such an opportunity that I have immediately put together my story and prepared some poems to accompany my text.

HERE is my story :))) It is on their cover page of their website! Here's how it looks like. Please go and visit their website and read my story.

http://hearinghealthfoundation.org

I'm very thankful for that as it enables me to share my cochlear implant journey with thousand other people all over the word! We have so many things in common and it's so nice to exchange thoughts on the same "thing" :)

Thanks for reading!

A Different World - POEM

© 2011 Sandra Stolnik ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Good evening!!

Here's a new poem. It's published in my book, though I put it on my photo from hospital to give you a visual input as well :)

2010 I got my cochlear implant and the first few days with this new technology inside my ear was wicked :D, confusing and really tough to adjust but I made it and I made a speedy recovery although everything sounded so strange in the first few months. However, day by day my hearing got better and then all of a sudden it got normal, back to what it was before, ... before I had my hearing loss, when I knew what's like to hear "normal" with a hearing aid.

I cannot describe it but, so much has changed since then and yes music is heavenly!!! I can hear it and it does sound so natural and I hear all the various tones which I haven't heard before. I can live a normal life again and even the big battery adjustment I accepted. I have to change batteries every 3 days and take two of those little "button batteries", you know those little ones.

Before that .. a hearing aid could work for a whole week and you only needed one tiny battery... At present I don't mind it. I always have a reservoir of batteries at home and in almost every back and jacket too, just to make sure ;)

I am SO HAPPY I took notes & wrote poems. Time's passing by so fast and without all the notes I wouldn't remember everything, every detail like this poem describes my first experience with my new hearing. (The car sound) :)

Enjoy it! I'm sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading this far, it means you care to read. :)

Stone Deaf Ear - POEM

I never knew how to locate sound,
Or to tell from where it came.
It always gave me shivers
I never liked this children’s game.

To turn left or to turn right?
I never knew which way to go.
Always heard some stupid laughter.
Making fun of me? I didn’t know.

Since the day I was born,
Silence was my company.
It was like a second layer
That did not want to leave me.

Can you revive my stone deaf ear,
Can you give it the sound back?
Can you unite my two ears,
So they can walk together this track?

Here's one of my poems about my ear. You can find more of my poems on youtube. Just search for "mytruestory85". I wrote this poem last summer, when I just began to hear with my new cochlear implant. Everything was new to me at that time but soon I began to notice positive changes, though still... I still had something I was longing for... to be bilateral, to hear on both ears. My RIGHT ear is still deaf & even to this present moment now, I still do not hear on that other ear.. but only on my left one.

Some people say "it's enough, you already have one hearing ear." Yes I do but why can I not be bilateral? I enjoy being deaf too. It has a lot of advantages that you begin to appreciate now. I am both hearing and deaf!! This reminds me of another poem I'll post soon.

In secret I hope for an internal failure with my device so that perhaps when that moment comes I can be implanted on both ears at the same time, risking only once another anesthesia. :P

We'll see what will happen in the future, but I better not wish such scenarios to happen because for half a year or so, I have noticed minimal first signs of a possible failure. It doesn't have to mean that something is wrong but sometimes I notice for a fraction of a second that my device stops working and then it's "on" again as if nothing happened before. The same feeling as if you take away that magnet from your head and stick it back, as soon as the magnet touches the other magnet which is under your skin you hear again, when they are not close together you don't.

This is weird but I'll pay attention to it further and see if there will be bigger changes that will affect my hearing.

I hope you enjoyed reading my poem!

What would you like to read?

Hi there,

I am trying to figure out what would you like to read here? As this blog is mixed, both with poetry and my ear, I still would like to know what you prefer and balance it, i.e. to post from both sides a bit.

I wish I were savvy enough to figure out how to create a tab for each topic one but I am not that smart :P

So let me know if you want and I'll post from everything a bit :)

Thanks for reading!
Will write soon!

Nanowrimo / Psycho thriller 2011

Hi,

Hmmm, you know what my to-do-list is big and I still find time to do other things that are not so important... A few weeks ago I met a wonderful woman who does research with children and how they listen to music with cochlear implants. She gave me a book to read about cochlear implant stories. I have started to read this book. I will sink.... so much to do :)) and then the preparation for nanowrimo... the national novel writing month where you try to write a *novel* in 30 days worth 50,000 words. I have to finish reading my last years novel so I can decide whether the story is worth a sequence or not. Somehow once for all, I want to have a finished story. I have a few more pages to read and then I can see. As I read a few pages the other day, it inspired me to write a poem. My story is about a schizophrenic poet, a murder story, a psycho-thriller. I tried to combine poetry and story. There was a passage that didn't have a poem at all and I thought "Here I could include one" and so I began to write and wrote a really bizzar poem, that really suites the main charracter who is bizzare. There you go even after a year the story is till *fresh in my mind* more or less....

That is why I try to refresh my mind... beacause last year I didn't even read my story once I reached the 50,000 mark. I took a long break. It was good. I can read the story and be unbiased. It is not a bad one, quite good, but I don't want to boast... yet I do really like it. There are a lot of holes, missing links from one scene to the other although the others are quite well-linked... but the point is there is always somthing that doesn't match. I am trying to work it out. AND the poem I wrote a few days ago, I will to the old version of my novel. I will not include it in the new file as I want to keep it seperate. A new file for new 50,000 words of crazyness :)

So you see how complicated everything is right now ...  huh, I will try to clear out all the fog in my mind so I can think rational :P

I need to go back to reading, so I have to stop here ( try to believe me that I will really read) ;)

and btw, I get other ideas of a dramatic love (or tragic love story) that I could use for next month... but then again.. will this idea be enough for 30 days? If I really use that idea I might get a new novel, but if I don't I will have a finished story (one that I started last year) so you see how complicated everything is right now???? I make it complicated :P

BUT, I can always start another novel after November, perhaps after the Christmas holidays when I recover from writing every day one whole page ;)

Okay, now I really have to go! It's time and time is short and runs fast!

Thank you for reading,

Thought-provoking poetry?

Hi there!!

Why is it always that I love thought-provoking poetry? My current poems are quite provoking...

Perhaps that is my nature? Not that I have certain dislike towards people, not at all. It is just that something that I read I dislike and have to write my opinion (in form of a poem). To share my point of view. Just like with the murder of Troy Davis, or Osama Bin Laden or anyone else. Not just things that happen in America, anywhere. Don't get me wrong. I have no dislike towards US, I like the country and I'd like to visit it one day. It's just that I do not agree with everything that is currently going on there. The same with the superstition that Lady Diana was killed and that it was not an accident. I have a poem that shares my opinion.

hm... Anyhow, I don't seem to write happy poems at the moment. I'm not really in the mood and I rather prefer drama than bliss :)

I'll post some more poems here, as soon as I get some time to edit my blogs! So some poetry will come here soon! So make sure you check out my blog every now and then or simply subscribe to the newsfeed. :)

Thank you for reading,

Outside The Balcony - POEM

Back from vacation! A few weeks ago I went to Croatia, to visit family, friends and have a few days off to go to the coast. This is Senj, a place in Croatia. We stayed for two days. Upon arrival there was a little but strong storm, all was wet and cold outside. Later the clouds disappeared and we had great weather.
Here's a poem I wrote while I was sitting outside my balcony enjoying the sunrise early in the morning! Hope you'll enjoy it!
I posted this poem on Facebook. You can have a look and if you like leave me some comments! Here's the LINK!

Me with my crazy ear

Hello!!! :))

Yes that's me with my crazy ear :) I got that picture in a letter from my acoustician, (advertisement) to get a hearing test or sth like that.. I can't remember it anymore.

Somehow I feel melancholic about my past blog.

Here's my "old" blog

It was so full with interesting stuff, my hearing, my writing, poetry etc. but I wanted to move although I still like the other blog but I need a new fresh start so from now on, keep checking out this blog every now and then or subscribe to the news feed.

If you came by accident to my blog because you searched something about my ear or poetry then I would suggest to make sure to check out some of my videos on youtube. If you want to hear more then go here:

Some of my poetry

Videos about my surgery

I will make sure to make some more videos. There are also videos about my doing the 100 day challenge. It's an online community where you set out intention for the next 100 days and you try to implement it, for some it's to follow your passion, for others is to find a perfect job, or to find the right house, the list goes on but don't forget to have fun in those 100 days and of course to find a way to share your progress in a daily video blog, or just blogging etc. That's what I did 3 years ago, with the intention to write a book. Well, all goals take some time.. Mine took me 3 years :-)

100 Day Challenge

If you want to read more, then click on "following" or save the link to your desktop so you can go back every now and then. To read more about my ear, go to my first 3 blogs which I wrote a few months ago, they will give you a rough overview who I am and what happened to my ears.

Thanks for reading!
